remastering done with Wavelab 4.0

(remaster note: I want to express that the original recording was not at all
flawed. the taper did a great job. I just felt I could improve in a few areas
and make a show that completely turned around my opinions of this band sound as
good as it could.)

Late Night Set

Transfer Notes:

1) The PA cut out on several occasions. The most noticeable was during Enter

Bro, thank you for recording this.
Rich, thank you for remastering this.

I was blown away. Carrington, I don't know how you withstood this show, it had no setbreak... moe. just plowed right on thru Umphrey's McGee setbreak at Bonnaroo. These sets are legendary. Thank you Deuce & Steele. Loveyall.

Subject: 1st Bonnaroo
This was the first of many Bonnaroo's for me, but will always remain the best. UM rocked my face off this infamous late night. If Vida Blue had not been so late to start, I would never have heard UM rockin 'resolution' and the night of my life beginning. Justice for All was amazing and the trade off jam with MOE was pretty sick too. Umphreys keeps getting better each year. By far the best band touring...

HOW DO I GET THIS SHOW ON ZIP FORMAT? I cannot get a copy of this and my CD from back in the day has seen its days.

This is one of my fav shows of all time but i cant seem to open the file after i download it. Could this be because its a flac file because it wont aknowledge it on iTunes.

My friend showed me "Nothing To Fancy" from this exact recording 2 years ago before I even listened to the band. After hearing the bridge (starts at 8:08) I realized that this band's guitarists work with each other better than any other band i had heard before with the exception of duane allman and dicky betts. A truly amazing show, havent heard a better one since.

Oh and tapers, the music belongs to no one but the band it self. Quit your bitching and enjoy an improvement on an already stellar recording.

This source sounds pretty good to me. It should be considered a good thing to give people more than one source of files to hear.

I'm sure this will go down in history as a legendary UM show!

i don't care what all you self-proclaimed tapers say. i respect what you do, and i appreciate it very much. but so long as you get to hear the show, what does it really matter if it's the master copy? the musicianship (which is why you should be listening)is still completely out of this world. how much does the exact lineage of the version matter? i think it sounds great. props for loading it onto the archive.

Subject: Relaaaax!!
Look, I have taped a fair share of shows, I have respected taper friends featured on this site, I went through music shool, I have friends who are professional sound engineers and I have an ear that appreciates the several $1,000s worth of stereo equipment that I own.

I understand the lineage, remastering questions et al., buuuuuut......

The bottom line is that a lot of you tapers need to get off your pedestals. Some people don't have the means to tape shows, but they have the truly rare ability to make a good taping sound great through their remastering tools, good ears and equipment. Embrace high fidelity!

I'm not saying this "remaster" is perfect. It is far from it and there are several things I would change right now. My point here is that the tapers who are obviously joining forces (and rightfully so) should, instead of ragging out this guy, use people with good remastering skills to make their hard earned tapings even better. This doesn't mean approving all "remasters", but if it sounds good encourrage the guy!

We are a community, or rather should be one. I've seen far too many tapers get indignant and selfish over their tapes. Remember, if you taped a show to share it with the world, then share it. If you can't handle that anymore or don't agree with the principle...don't tape.

On the other hand, if you want to edit a taper's work you gotta have permission. It is simple courtesy. Yes it is yours to DL and alter for your own, but altering for distribution w/o permission is bogus.

Can't we all just get along? Pretty please...with an effin cherry on top!

I know all the controversy, but all I can say is this copy sounds great. Very crisp highs & thumping bass. I haven't heard the orginal but I know what I like & this one rocks!! Just get it damit :) No more fighting!! BIG GROUP HUG :)~

I have to agree that some tapers can be nazis. Ill give this a five just to ballance out all the bs reviews from people who haven't even given the copy a chance. And I must agree that once a show hits circulation its fair game. If you don't like it keep the DAT to yourself and deprive everyone else. As Jerry said once the notes are played they don't belong to anyone.
Oh yeah, kickin show, wish this selling sbds thing never started, there would be no fight. We'd all have the matrix.

Subject: Awesome Show
I got to this show a bit late, and unfortunately I didn't stay to see it. This is a common thing at Bonnaroo because there's just SO MUCH great music to see. I'm a huge moe. fan, so I kicked myself after hearing that they did an instrument swap (Gotta love that stuff). I always appreciate that people take the time and energy to tape things like this because it is truely a treasure that should be shared.

I can't quite call myself a taper, just an occasional hack that plugs my D8 into other tapers stuff at some shows. I understand that people take taping VERY seriously (sometimes TOO seriously), but I don't understand why they would want to deprive people of a Jem like this.

Subject: Good Remaster
I think this sounds great, though the bottom end gets a bit boomy at times. Thanks for the effort. I've been taping shows for many, many years. Tapers need to get over themselves. If you don't like the show, don't d/l it. Who cares about the original taper? The show is out here for all to enjoy and that's the point. The negativity from the so-called tapers is just another example of why we (tapers) as a community have such a bad name. Get over it, it's just another fucking show.

Subject: Don't believe a word from these guys
This remaster is fantastic. I downloaded several sources for this show when it first became available. I was never impressed with any of the sound (granted i never found the matrix of the show). Rich did a fantastic job with this show, as he does with every show he remasters. Don't believe a word of what these ungrateful people think, he did an amazing job. As for the show itself: It's the first Umphrey's show I got that really made me a fan of the band. The more I listen to it, the more blown away I am with the innovation and emotion these guys put into their music. Not only are their songs well written and addictive, but their improvisations are top notch and completely focused. Thank you Umphrey's McGee for an amazing show and thank you Rich Steele for a fantastic remaster. Download this, you won't be sorry.

remastered whatever. doesn't matter, if anyone wants the show, email me, this was from my stand at b-roo so if you want it, email me. An amazing show, and i'm listening to it now. I like my source very much more than the live bonnaroo stuff, allthough it does sound very good, but no coloration or atmosphere.

Subject: tapers show their true side
Honestly folks... the only reason there are so many negative reviews is because all the geeks at rallied behind one of their own and came here to post nothing but negative reviews of this remaster. I doubt most of them even bothered to listen to this. And even "thirdofthree" seems to think he's an audio wizard with his over-the-top garbled review. Absolute garbage!

This show rocks... bottom line. And the remaster just makes it that much better. If you have issues like the pile of tapersection geeks that have wasted time here please dont bother downloading this show. But if you actually love UM and want to "hear" the show please, by all means, download this and enjoy a fantastic recording of a fantastic show!

enjoy :)

It appears this is the only version of the show available on right now, so it will have to suffice for those just now looking for it. Oh well...I must say, I don't mind the remaster, and I don't think it's near as awful as some people think. I'm not sure everyone who complained actually listened to this recording and compared it to the original. Rather, it seems that people are looking to pick a fight.

Once a taper offers up a show, its out of his hands what happens next. It is either the property of the internet site or public domain. It is always the property of the band, as far as rights go. Why not leave the bitching to the band? If Umphrey's McGee gets on and complains about this remaster, then I will listen (I doubt they will, since they would like to see a profit from the Bonnaroolive release).

Fans should be happy to have so many options for FREE MUSIC.

As for those who feel this remaster is so offensive, and ask for "credentials," what makes your judgement at all valuable? Are you an accomplished musician, have you studied music, do you have an understanding of music beyond what sounds good to you? For those who aren't even tapers, what are you providing to the music community, anything of value?

Stop patting yourselves on the back for a minute and face the realization that maybe, just maybe the music is the most important thing.

But hey, my opinion means nothing.

Subject: sounds good to me
I think the show sounds good and people should let their ears be the judge. Some people prefer the original, some prefer the remaster. Personally, I like the sound of the remaster better than the original but honestly prefer the sbd matrix source to either audience recording. If remastered shows are not allowed on here, that is a separate issue and literally hundreds of other shows should be taken down as well. I understand that the original taper is 'offended' that someone may be trying to improve the sound on the recording so I guess that is that, it should probably be removed for that reason. Funny how there isn't a problem with any of the remastered disco biscuits shows by Rich or the many dead shows that have been tweeked, most of the time not *gasp* by the original taper. I doubt that the original taper gave permission on every case.

By the way, the person who did the remastering was NOT the person uploading it here so attacks on him are unfounded. This remaster has been circulating other places for quite a while now.

Also the remasterer has taped shows, some available on here, so I'm not sure you can call him a 'wannabee' taper.

Subject: An actual review!
Here's my take on the remaster sound quality relative to the original:

I find the remaster significantly brighter. The guitars leap out at me - to the point of upsetting the balance with the other instruments. The HF percussion comes through harsh and blaring, fatiguing after only a few seconds of listening. The bass feels heavier, more prominent than the original, but less rounded, not as natural and smooth, not as blended. The mids seem lost in the remaster, buried beneath the heavy bass and sharp highs. I find the remaster reduced in dynamic range and over all far less detailed and nuanced.

I assume I hear these differences because the remasterer tweaked the recording with an EQ and applied compression, but I don't know since the remaster isn't documented.

This does not belong here, keep your remastered crap to yourself, the only version of the show that should be on the archive is the one the taper put out. If you want to spread remastered shows, be a wannabe taper, and remaster shows YOU should invest the hundreds to thousands that tapers such as Carrington have in equipment and remaster your own tapes. Don't alter other people's tapes period, its not your right to do so.

hey hydrogen,

you are the one dropping f bombs and telling people whos property is whos and getting irate, simmer down now, there are decafinated brands that are just as tasty as the real thing. I promise.

as for the "remaster". whoever has done the "remaster" is doing so on 1 particular system (comprised of god knows what) on 1 particular set of ears. It is the integrity of the situation, the effort, the configuration, the pre, the mics, the walk through the slop at stinkaroo....that is being compromised. 90% of the replys here to this "remaster" are from tapers who value thier efforts very dearly and go to great lenghts to capture the show in the way they see fit....and to seed it in the way they see fit. people aren't "chilling out" because the integrity of everything that we, as tapers, capture, transfer and upload to this and other archives is at stake. For someone to download it and "remaster" it is a slight kick in the stones (to me at least). No disrespect intended, but if you want to remaster a show, that is fine, just don't remaster it and upload it to an archive claiming it is "better" than the hard work that has been put forth thus far. If the taper wanted it to sound "better" he would've bought Neumann's :P. my .02

Listen up... IF YOU DON'T WANT THE REMASTERED VERSION DONT DOWNLOAD IT! Rich took the time to make these great shows even better. When someone places a show for download on the internet it becomes PUBLIC PROPERTY! Therefore it is open to be done with as it will.

Listen to the shows and if you dont like them there's a little thing you can do nowdays with your computer... it's an option called DELETE!

get over yourselves! :P

"Remaster" all you like, for your ears, on your system. if the 'engineer' feels that the finished product is actually better, it should be sent to the taper. if it is indeed better, i'm sure the taper would have no problems pulling the original. as alex stated, it's polluting the pool.

Download the original release and work your magic on it for your own listening pleasure. That's cool, but don't "Re-Master" it without the tapers permission. This is just common sense and common courtesy.

Hell, he doesn't even have the masters, how can he remaster them? There is little to no information about what these remasters even are. Its not like he even knows what the taper did to he files in the first place. Just sounds like a tweek for thoes with bad stereo systems. Download the orginals and then edit them however you would like, no need to seed them.

These unsourced "remasters" are being widely distributed without the tapers permissions or blessings.

Feel free to do this for personal copies but do not circulate such a "remaster". This was already taken down from the archive site once.

I'm the one who uploaded this show...I grabed it of a bit torrent a few weeks ago after already having the non-remastered on my hard drive. I must say that this version is very much cleaned up, the sound is crisper and cleaner than the original. This is the versin of this show to have.
